Sports betting bill heads to the Ky. Senate

The past week of session for the Kentucky General Assembly was chock full of large bills, including legalizing sports betting in the state, which now heads to the Senate for consideration.

Representative Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville says he understands why people would want the extra revenue coming in, but he ultimately voted against House Bill 606 so he cant’ support any type of expanding gaming in the state—which is why he voted in support of House Bill 608, which regulates so-called ‘gray machines’.

Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke says most of his constituents seemed in favor of sports betting, so he voted ‘yes’, but he remains against gaming as whole—this will help keep it regulated.

Senator Whitney Westerfield says he wasn’t pleased to see it pass the house, and he will not support the measure in the Senate as he feels it preys on the most vulnerable.
